I hope you’re ready for the best watermelon margarita recipe of your life. It was inspired by my trip to Cabo about 5 years ago, and wow I’ve loved reminiscing on that trip:
I have spent most of my time in Cabo lying on the beach, reading books that I have been accumulating from Amazon for the last three months. This is a very bad habit-once you buy books, read a few chapters, and get caught up with all the lists of things I need to do.
It is now in my top-do list to get through all the books.
The other day I was reading a book that said those who succeed don’t really set out to succeed. They fail, they do things wrong, they never begin the right way — most important though, is that they try again and again. They learn from their experiences and mistakes and that my friends, allows them to grow both personally and professionally. It is the non-conformists who succeed.
Lately, it seems like no matter where I turn, there is an app or an article telling me how to be more productive or how to accomplish everything in the world as quickly as possible. Sometimes I wonder if what we need more of is SLOWING DOWN and appreciating the time we have.
Recently, I read this article about wasting time and it really resonated with me. It says that being unproductive and wasting time re-charging your battery is, in fact, time well spent. Read the article. Embrace it. And then drink a sweet and spicy watermelon margarita and say F your crazy to-do list for a little while.
I have spent the whole week relaxing with margaritas. It has been incredibly wonderful. Toes painted, book in my hand, tennis, lots of chips and guac, and quality time away from the world wide web. Life is simply what it should be in this very moment.
Watermelon margarita ingredients
- Fresh lime juice: a tiny pucker of lime to counterbalance the sweetness of the watermelon.
- Watermelon: yep, you will be using fresh, ripe watermelon to craft this gorgeous cocktail!
- Agave nectar: teensy amount of agave sweetens them up a bit, but this is omitted if your watermelon is sweet enough, and I got rid of triple sec and simple syrup, as well!
- jalapeño: I love a few slices to give it some spice kick-use less if you don’t like or can’t have.
- Coarse salt & ice: SALT those rims, baby! And shake with plenty of ice.
- Silver tequila: I like to use a silver tequila for the flavor in this simple watermelon margarita recipe.
How to prepare fresh watermelon juice?
- You will just puree ½ to 1 cup seedless watermelon cubes in a blender. Pour over fine mesh strainer into a glass. Measure what you need for the margaritas.

- Fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, watermelon juice, jalapeño slices, and agave nectar to the mixture. Put the lid on the cocktail shaker and shake for 15-30 seconds well.
- Strain liquid into a glass. You can add a few slices of jalapeño to the bottom of the glass if you like it on the hot side. Strain over ice in a glass, garnish with fresh lime wedges, and serve. Taste and add more sweetener as you like.
Don’t forget the salt the rim!
Before you pour your margarita into a glass – salt it! Just sprinkle a little salt on a small plate. Take a lime wedge to moisten the rim of the glass. Submerge the rim into the salt by dipping and turning to side until covered thoroughly. Can I make it frozen?
YES! To make a frozen watermelon margarita:
- Freezing 1/2-1 cup of watermelon cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet for about 4-6 hours or overnight
Once frozen, add the watermelon cubes along with the remaining ingredients of your watermelon margarita, except the jalapeño slices, into a high powered blender and blend until smooth and thick. If your margarita mixture is a little too watery, then add some ice cubes and blend. - Pour your mixture into glasses, garnish with jalapeño slices and enjoy!
